On 26th January 2018, National Office of Intellectual Property has issued its Decision No. 298/QD-SHTT on granting Geographical Indication registration certificate No.00063 for the famous “Ben Tre” Xiem Xanh coconut. Ben Tre Provincial People’s Committee is the organization in charge of managing this geographical indication.
Ben Tre Xiem Xanh water coconut has a distinctive and recognizable appearance. The fruit is small, with green exocarp; the fresh water inside is sweeter than that cultivated in other regions.
Geographical area consists of Chau Thanh District, Cho Lach District, Giong Trom District, Mo Cay Nam District, Mo Cay Bac District, Thanh Phu District, Ba Tri district, Binh Dai District and Ben Tre City of Ben Tre province.
